Flair Leisure Products PLC, is a major, well-respected, player in the toy industry that have launched some of the most popular brands licenses in the UK such as Sylvanian Families, Disney Princess & Plasticine. Working alongside British toy design consultancy “Design Matters” we were approached to help develop the awesome “Alien Force Hero Identity Station” a new Craft Set for young boys bearing the internationally renowned “BEN 10″ license.
The Brief
1: Develop the popular Cool Cardz product for young girls to inherit the BEN 10 license and provide game play and features that appeals to young boys.
2: Create a set of high quality presentation visuals to highlight the final product, its features and possible colour and styling combinations.

Our Solution
Wow! I think any product bearing the name “Hero Identity Station” brings you crashing back to your early years, playing spies, Cowboys and Indians, or fighting over who’s going to be He-Man and who’s going to be Skeletor!! BEN 10 is a popular character license in the UK and this project gave us a great opportunity to familiarise ourselves with the characters, pour over the DVD and You Tube collections for inspiration (it’s a hard job!!). With the product being based on the craft product Cool Cardz which is simple intuitive card making and cold laminating set we wanted to utilise the manufactured form of the current product and re-badge into a whole new product using the same features. This gave us some creative freedom to design the look and styling along with some new product features that would appeal to a predominantly male target group.
Once the concepts had been created SorbetMedia were tasked with visualising the entire product in 3D not only to showcase the new products styling and game play as a presentation but also to act as a guide for the manufacturing processes. This project allowed us to bring together our skills in 3D Cad Design, Product texturing, mapping and rendering along with graphic composition to create a set of high quality presentation visuals.
Overall a great design project for us and an even better product for Flair WINNING Best New Toys for 2009 under the arts and crafts design category at the annual exhibition “The Toy Fair – London”
